| Fire Protection for the world’s largest Industrial Rehandler - 25/06/2009
For over ten years, metal recycling company, S-Norton & Co has relied on Ardent’s expertise and unique range of Ansul vehicle fire suppression systems to protect its fleet of material handlers and their operators from the risk of exposure to fire.
Dave Matthews, Operations Manager at S-Norton, is responsible for the maintenance of a fleet of twenty-six Liebherr material handlers and wheel loading shovels on four UK sites.
Dave explained, “Fires do start on occasion, but an automated discharge of chemicals will immediately extinguish the flames, protecting the vehicle and personnel in the vicinity. If we didn’t have Ardent’s systems in place, in addition to the danger aspect, an engine damaged by fire could cost up to £60K to replace, which would have a significant effect on future insurance premiums.”
Neil Crowther, MD of Ardent, added, “It’s no surprise that mobile plant can carry a high risk of fire. If the flammable fuels, oils and hydraulic fluids that flow through pressurised lines make contact with the hot turbochargers, manifolds and engine blocks sited just millimetres away, a resulting fire has the potential to cause human suffering, expensive downtime and many thousands of pounds worth of damage. Our systems are ideal for use in areas where potential fires are confined to specific areas and when approach with hand portable fire extinguishers would endanger human safety. They discharge the moment a fire starts to provide total protection for people and equipment. “
