Port of Tyne safeguard Liebherr 320 Crane with A-101 System

Port of Tyne follows Hull by protecting Liebherr LHM 320 crane with Ardent automatic fire suppression system.

Ardent approached Port of Tyne after a fire started on a large belt driven grain loader used on the dock. After discussions between Ardent and Port of Tyne dock operatives, it was decided that once the grain loader was operational again, Ardent would be asked to design an effective fire suppression system to reduce the risk of a fire happening again.

Ardent and operators on the dock realised that the Liebherr 320 harbour crane, of which there are four, posed a risk of fire also.

The danger that crane operators are faced with, working high above the dock with the cranes engine below, became apparent. If a fire was to start, the only safe way down from the crane cab was past the engine bay. Therefore getting the right automatic fire suppression system was crucial.

Ardent have worked for 6 months to ensure the clients requirements were exceeded. Installation of the first Liebherr LHM 320 will begin in June 2010.
