Each month we introduce one of our vehicle fire suppression team members. For our customers who regularly speak to the team, it puts a face to the voice and shows the mix of individual characters that make Ardent. This month it’s the man we go to with any installation problems, our Senior Technical Engineer, Patrick Thornton.
What does your role involve?
I bridge the gap between the office and our engineers to ensure every installation, no matter how tricky, is successful. I run training courses, both internally and for our customers. I design bespoke courses for customers after getting a thorough understanding of their needs. I also deal with any health and safety issues such as risk assessments and method statements.
What do you like best about working at Ardent?
It’s the team. Everyone here is committed and puts full effort in. ‘Support each other’ is my favourite Ardent value. We really do all rely on each other a lot. I also love it when I get the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures.
Where do you think you make the biggest contribution at Ardent?
I enjoy problem solving. If there’s a tricky installation job to do then I endeavour to find a way.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’m a bit of a tool geek – any excuse to buy something new for the collection. Also I’m a bit addicted to the Discovery Channel.
What’s your passion?
I enjoy travel with work and for pleasure because it allows me to experience different cultures. I also enjoy good food and wine.
When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was very young I wanted to be an Egyptologist. I’ve always been fascinated by history. Practical mechanical engineering has always been an interest too.
