Passive light circuit monitoring for driver awareness

The Ardent Vehicle Light Monitoring System passively monitors connected LED lighting circuits, alerting the driver in case of a light failure.

The system connects with the vehicle lighting circuits to monitor the lights and alert when the load of a circuit falls below the stored fault threshold. VLMS is available in 3 variations; the VLMS-6, the VLMS-6E and the VLMS-10, offering light monitoring for a range of circuit quantities and voltages.

KEY BENEFITS

Calibrated System

During installation, the system stores the normal operating load for each monitored circuit. The stored values are used to determine failure.

Voltage Configurations

Light Monitoring System configurations are available for vehicles that use both 12 V and 24 V electrical systems.

Compatible with VMMS

The VLMS interfaces with the Ardent Vehicle Multi-Message System to provide audible light failure alerts to the driver.

KEY DIFFERENCES

VLMS-6

The VLMS-6 monitors up to 6 low power LED light circuits and alerts the driver when the load falls below the fault threshold. The VLMS-6 has three configurable failure thresholds of 10 mA, 25 mA and 50 mA. When the load of the circuit falls below the set threshold, the failure feedback is activated. These low current thresholds allow LED lights as low as 0.25W to be monitored.

VLMS-6E

Like the VLMS-6, the VLMS-6E can monitor up to 6 individual lighting circuits. The VLMS-6E is suitable for use in 12 V and 24 V vehicles.

During installation, the VLMS-6E operates a self-calibration cycle where it stores the normal operating load of each monitored circuit. The stored values are used to determine when the circuit load is less than the set fault threshold. Under failure, a feedback output becomes active for each affected circuit – this is ideal for controlling a dedicated warning light or buzzer, or for activating an audible message when connected the Ardent Vehicle Multi-Message System.

VLMS-10

The VLMS-10 can monitor up to 10 separate lighting circuits and alerts the driver when the circuit load drops below a pre-set threshold. The VLMS-10 works with a wide range of LED lights for buses, coaches and minibuses.

Like the VLMS-6E, The VLMS-10 runs a self-calibration cycle on installation, during which the normal operating load of each monitored circuit is measured and stored. This calibration process can be repeated at any time.  When the system detects that the circuit load has dropped below the set threshold, the driver is alerted. This warning can be a buzzer, a warning light, or, if the Ardent Vehicle Multi-Message System is installed, it can trigger an audible warning message to be delivered.
